Nepal Trade Union Congress celebrate International Domestic Workers Day 

June 16, 2017, Kathmandu.

On the occassion of International Domestic Workers Day, Nepal Trade Union Congress and its affiliates Home Workers Union of Nepal organized International Domestic Workers Day. More than 120 domestic home workers observed the program which was held in Nepal Trade Union Congress Conference Hall, Anamnagar, Kathmandu. The program was chaired by HWUN central president Ms. Usha Bhandari and the chief guest of the program recently elected deputy mayor of Kathmandu metropolitan Ms. Hariprabha Khadgi. The special guest of the program were NTUC centre vice president Mr. Aayodhya Prasad Yadav, NTUC women vice president Ms. Rama Poudel, NTUC women committee president Ms.Sudha Dahal, ILO representatives and also the president of various affiliates Union.

The program was presented by General Secretary of HWUN and president of NTUC Kathmandu district Mr. Ganesh Bhattarai gave the welcome speech. Similarly, Lalitpur district president Kamal Bista, Rama Poudel gave their verdict about the program. They mentioned different existing issues and also vouched determination to work together in oder to save the right of domestic workers.

Likewise, Ms. Hariprabha Khadgi was feliciated by the organizing committee where she said that she has continuously representing the agendas of women and will always be there to support in any case. She also expressed gratitude to every people of NTUC and its affiliates for addressing such an important day. Also, Vice- President Mr. Yadav urge to take NTUC as a supportive organization and feel free to ask or come for the guidance. We are always committed to the rights of the workers, he added.

At last the program was finally concluded by the the chairman of the program Ms. Bhandari. She told that the organization has dealt with various problems and cases of the domestic workers and will remain dedicated as before. She also expressed dissatisfaction to the government weak rules, regulation and implementation strategy. Apart from this, we will pressurize the government and concerned parties no mateter what will be the consequences, she replied.

At the end, the committee handed the delegation letter to Deputy mayor. There were distribution of resources which mentioned about the domestic workers brief introduction. Also, brief session was taken by ILO representative in which she clarified about ILO convention 189. The program went beyond the mentioned time as the participant were so seen much excited listening the speech.
