NTUC Vice President Bro. Ajay Kumar Rai elected as an Executive Board member in ITF 44th Congress, Singapore

After 122 years, Nepali Trade Unionist premier from Nepal Transport Workers Union (NETWON) Brother Ajay Kumar Rai was elected as an Executive Board member of International Transport Workers' federation. Bro. Ajay Kumar Rai also holds the profound position of Vice president at Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) and is a immediate past president of Nepal Transport Workers Union (NETWON). 

Also, Bro. Rai was also elected as a Vice chair of Road Section in A/P region in the ITF for 5 year tenure.

During the event, Bro. Rai vowed to raise the issues of International Law, Rights and provisions of Transport workers' and Soccial Security. He stressed that he will be careful to adopt international law from Transport sector in Nepal.

All in all from the history of ITF representation, Mr. Rai is sole delegate from Nepal who entered in the ITF after 122 years and is also the first one to represent as well.

Furthermore, the 44th Congress of ITF was held first time in south East Asia at singapore. The congress was held on 14-20 October, 2018. It was the biggest event that invited more than 2,000 participants from all over the world representing 140 countries over 600 transport unions with more than 19 million members. At the special event, Ng Chee Meng, Secretary- general of the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Singapore, and minister in the Prime Minister's Officeand General Secretary from ITUC, sis. Sharan Burrow was the guest of honour for the opening.

The congress provided transport workers a collective voice and set the agend for the transport industry for the next five years. It also discussed how digitization is reshaping global transport, along with strategic policies.

ITF not only cover the workers from Road but also from Seafarers, Civil Aviation, Dockers, Rail and inland navigation.

We would like to congratulate him and wish him a successful tenure and also believe that the worker and country will benefit utmost from his representation at ITF.
